Providing Fiber Pathways for a Sprawling Hospital Campus

As part of its ongoing modernization efforts, a major hospital with many facilities is transitioning to a new electronic health record (EHR) system to store and track patient medical information. Full implementation across all facilities is scheduled for completion by 2028.

The new system connects the medical facilities with many military facilities and participating community care providers, allowing clinicians to quickly access a patient’s complete medical history in one location. The hospital’s electronic health record modernization office manages the deployment of the new system.

In some of the initial locations, new fiber needed to be installed throughout the campus and in each IT closet for this campus-like environment program. IT closets have been redesigned or moved as part of this project. The specs for the fiber in the closets vary but are predominately 96 count.

The MaxCell team worked with the engineering consultant to figure out the best solution specified in the design. They found that if they used the 3" 3-Cell product in their 4" conduits, they could get three packs in each conduit. Three packs of 3" 3-Cell MaxCell provide nine pathways for immediate and future use.

The initial runs at the first two locations were 20' and 30' and installed so quickly that the consultants and director of sales specified that MaxCell is to be the standard on all future projects
